The Andean Mountain Cat has an extra long tail acting as a counterbalance giving the mountain cat additional speed and grace when moving quickly over rocky terrain. It lives in the Mountains in Peru, Bolivia and Argentina. It is estimated that only about 2,500 remain mostly due to the decline one of its major prey species, the mountain chinchilla, which has been hunted nearly to extinction for the fur trade.
