What's Next from Green Home?
We've worked hard to create a helpful, innovative resource center on the
Web and what you see now is only the beginning! As we continue to build
Green Home, we're breaking ground in a number of exciting ways and thought
you might like to see what we're up to and tell us what you think of our
direction. Please tell us what you think.
Green Home Living Magazine
We're now on our fifth issue of our companion Web magazine: Green
Home Living! Here you can find all the latest information on relevant
aspects of everyday living and how to approach them from an environmental
perspective.
Green It Up
Institutions that claim of themselves that they are committed to green
values include colleges and universities that have environmental studies
programs, as well as churches, temples and mosques that have environmental
stewardship committees. Other institutions with a commitment to green
values include health spas and yoga retreat centers. Reaching out to these
institutions often involves a lengthy process of explaining what the benefits
of "going green" can mean to them. The Green It Up Program helps these
institutions understand what the options are for becoming more environmentally
friendly, and offers them a practical program to go green in a way that's
cost-effective and painless.
Greenovations
Many leading environmental inventors and entrepreneurs are attempting
to bring new green products to market, but are hindered by the high manufacturing
and marketing costs. This program aims to provide resources to this growing
community, providing a showcase for the best ideas through an annual Greenovations
Awards program, thereby allowing these potentially new products an opportunity
to reach an audience.
Production Transparency
Tired of poor product design and dull choices? Picture this: an array
of plans for high-design tables. None have been made yet but the designs
are displayed on the Web. Now we vote. If your choice gets the minimum
number of votes, it gets made for you and you're able to monitor the whole
process. Suddenly, you're the production manager. You decide not just
what to buy but what gets made. At Green Home, we're developing this very
model with some of our partners, to offer you in the future. We call it
"production transparency." You'll call it the most innovative way to make
and buy since the assembly line met the supermarket.
Ecotown
Green Home plans to have a non-profit, training program for inner city
youth. Ecotown, as it's called, will offer young high school graduates
the opportunity to learn how to conduct Green Home inspections. By doing
so, they will position themselves for future work, and help insure the
saftey and environmental health of their local communities.
Service Referral
Green Home plans to offer a comprehensive set of locally-based environmental
services and information to its customers on the basis of their zip codes.
We will tell you which paint is best for your climate, who in your area
can install energy-saving insulation, and where you can recycle your batteries.
Many products are only environmentally sound if used correctly. Green
Home believes this unique resource will bridge the gap between theory
and reality.
Home Testing Equipment Rentals
You'll be able to test your home for hazards like lead, radon, dust mites,
and asbestos with our easy-to-use environmental home inspection kits and
equipment rental.
These are a few of the projects in the pipeline. Now, please give us
your comments and suggestions by filling out our survey.
